I'm very close on pulling the trigger on a pair of new MAC taper tips. Close examination of the original pipes on my bike has shown there are some holes developing near where the headers meet the mufflers. I suppose a cheaper option would be to remove the mufflers, clean and repair the original headers and replace them with some sort of slip-ons. I was reading through Chacal's data and recall a few lines about the crossover pipe that is on the OEM pipes that aren't on the MACs. I believe it was also stated that they aren't imperative although they were obviously engineered into the bike for a reason. Has anyone had any experience with the MAC products?

I have a MAC 4 into 2 , works just fine and is not real loud , but you can remove the baffle if so desired . I've seen these new on ebay for around 4oo$ , my experience is worth the expence , and beats piecing together a 30 year plus system .

The crossover helps with gas flow. The pressure wave from the opposite bank of cylinders helps pull exhaust gasses out of the combustion chambers of the just-fired cylinder. The engine will run just fine without it, but it won't be ideal (something you'd only notice on a dyno or a timed run).

The crossover also makes it so that somone has to put two bananas in the tailpipes, the expense of which tends to keep people from pulling such a prank.

This is how I understood it from reading previously. Appreciate the explanation.

I found a place online called partsgiant that sells the tapers for $382 and change. The cheapest I've seen new so far.

Apparently there is not an issue with the pipes afterall. What i was feeling was from the moisture weep holes in each pipe.
