There is no lid that is where the “powerlock” goes. Locks to the peg on the frame.

Yes. My point in posted that was if that's the correct box, I'm not seeing a cover in the parts diagram. My bike doesn't have this box, so I'm going off the best source of parts information I know (aside from Len - Chacal at xj4ever)

Specifically, what model/year is your bike?

There is no cover, never was, never will be! It's an open cavity, designed to hold the bike chain-and-lock unit (called a "powerlock" in Yamaha-speak") that gets stuffed clumsily and tightly into the cavity. And the metal "peg" sticking across the opening of the box is what the power "lock" mechanism is latched onto (shown in Dave's photo, above) to prevent the lock/chain assembly from falling out of the bike while it is being stored in the cavity.

By the way, the lock on this powerlock is keyed to the bike it came on, so if you purchase one make sure that it comes with a key!

Almost the ugliest thing I ever saw.

I had such toolbox on my prev bike but it was gently covered with plastic cap and looked nice, not like this..

Maybe I’ll try to make some cover for it, just try to figure out from what material it will be

It's not a tool box! The tools go in your toolpouch on the tool tray under your seat.

It's not a glovebox! Your gloves go on your hands or in your pockets. (Or stuffed in your helmet, hanging on the helmet lock...lol)

    It's a beautiful chain box....:)
I can even take my chain out via the original key!!

That said, if you don't have the chain, and you don't like the box--- simply remove the bolt and pull the box out. No more box.
