Hey guys, I rebuilt my seca 750 recently. Only about 250 miles on the rebuild. I did all new valve stem seals, orings, new piston rings. Basically a brand new top end. However after riding for a little bit I noticed some smoke in the exhaust and I coughed it up to the new rings needing to settle in. Now there’s no smoke but oil is still disappearing with no visible smoke at idle or any type of acceleration. I have a small leak on the shirt shaft which I have the new seal to replace it, but it only leaves a golf ball sized puddle on the ground after 3 days. Any ideas?
Do these motors naturally burn some oil? but not an excessive amount?

New top end may use some oil, but get the revs up a bit more than 4-5000 after the first 100. Let the engine rev but don’t full throttle. For the first 1000.
Make sure your not over filling it.

I will try doing that. I mostly ride to class through town, and about 40 miles one way on the highway at 60-65mph. What does keeping the rpm above 4-5000 do to help with a new top end?

Not keeping it above 4-5 k but letting the engine get a good workout letting it rev and not baby it will properly seat the new rings.

At only 250 miles she'll still be using some oil.

Yes, need to seat the rings to the bores, use the revs, also lots of engine braking.....but don't over rev, don't let it sit in 5th, even though you aren't running the gearbox in, multiple rev ranges should bed the rings/bores in quicker, like has been said she should settle down after 200-350 miles---ish...

Hey all. I haven’t replaced the seal yet but this seems like it’s gotten worse. After about 300miles this week I had to add an entire quart of oil. That’s almost 600miles since my rebuild. Any ideas?

look at the breather hose from the engine to the airbox and inside the airbox for signs of excess oil.
the gasket for the shifter cover is part of a baffle to keep oil from getting sucked into the airbox, might be something in there

Thanks Polock. I will look at it later tonight. What does the seal do to act as a baffle?

I didn’t have any oil in the air box. It has an oiled uni filter in it. Was planning on cleaning it this weekend
