as i was cleaning my carbs today, i broke one of the posts that the float pin sits in! i was so pissed when it happened i thought i was going to cry. it looks like it has been broken and welded before. i used some JB Weld on it and it is setting right now. im really hoping this will hold and i will be alright with the way it is. i had never heard of the stuff until today but it is supposed to work very well. any thoughts on the situation?

I broke the no 2 carb body on my carb on my present bike. I jb welded it and it is fine. Follow the directions and wait the alotted time to dry. I've had no problem with it.

J-B Weld is 80% as strong as aluminum can be drilled, tapped, & etc.
    No worries.

Another satisfied JB Weld customer here.

I fixed a badly cracked float bowl with it. Still going strong 3 yrs later.

thanks fox but i think its gonna be alright. its an 81 seca 550. looks like the jb weld is gonna hold it. im putting it back together today. not sure if those parts would work with a 550 but ill keep it in mind.

Doesn't look like it -- a quick perusal of the XJCD says the 550 has Mikunis, where the 750 has Hitachi carbs.

I was working on my 81 xj650's carb problems. They were previously built my a "racer". When I disassembled them I found the float pivot pin mount broken off and in the bottom of the bowl. It had been epoxied before but didn't hold... I cleaned it up and JB welded it works like a champ. JB weld is the ticket to many auto or bike repairs. It gets a 10 in my book like pb blaster and fluid film as well.
Also rated a 10 is electrolisis cleaning of my fuel tank. Simply amazing!
