I just finished rebuilding my petcock when I turned to install in into my gas tank I knocked over my gas tank. Long story short I now have a massive dent:(. I recently saw someone swap an xj650 gas tank with an xj700, would my xj650 petcock fit the xj700 gas tank?

    Welcome Swirv
The xj650 maxim tank is a direct swap with the 82-83 XJ750 maxim,
    but not the Xj700n 85-86.

xj 750 tank will fit the bike

you could have the dent removed tools run 30 to 125$ to do it

Check your local yellow pages for a "paintless dent repair" outfit. They are amazing at manipulating tools and working dents out from the inside. A guy here in Cary, NC fixed hail damage to my black truck in 1 day leaving it so that you would never know it had been damaged. Likely the price for a m/c tank would be very reasonable, maybe less than shipping in another tank.

No, the XJ700 petcock is much wider and the mounting bolt holes won't line up.
