I'm curious if anyone has an xj650 with a spin on oil filter kit/conversion and has a 4into1 header. I've heard that with the 4into1 headers have issues with the oil filters so I wanted to see if anyone has first hand experience.

I removed the header wrap which was aging and falling apart from the prior owner and found that the pipes are in rough cosmetic shape underneath. So i'm weighing all of my options on how to move forward:
    1. Attempt to clean up the pipes (won't be as good as i'm hoping for)
    2. Paint the existing pipes
    3. Re-wrap the pipes with new wrap
    4. Pull the trigger and buy a new 4-into-1 with a new exhaust
If I go with options 2 or 3, I will need new gaskets from the headers to the collectors as the current ones are destroyed.

if I go with option 4 i'll have a complete exhaust setup for an 82 xj650rj seca for sale ;)

I ideally want a 4into1 fully chrome exhaust to match the oem style/color. But not sure what i'm going to do. Any feedback is appreciated.

You could also have your current headers blasted and Ceramic coated. There are various colors of Ceramic coating, looks good and hold the heat in which helps scavenging.

IIRC your mufflers look good but the header pipes not so much. You can have things re chromed too. It only becomes too rusty/pitted to re chrome when it becomes too expensive :)

    1, never is
2, they will need touch-ups from time to time
3, i can't understand how wrapped pipes and oil changes get along, seems like a mess with a lot of smoke.
4, not cheap, i don't like the sound of MAC megaphones. maybe look for just the pipes and get a harley take-off muffler.
spin-on filters work with 4/1 pipes

Awesome, now the only thing I realized I forgot to mention was that I also have an oil cooler in the bike. So my spin on oil filter sits even lower than a “regular” one.
That was my plan to only use the Mac 4into1 header and then get a different muffler.

it is the stock filter housing that will not pull out but can be rotated to install filter.
