Electrical question... Xj700 1985

    My running tail light are not on while bike is runing (front lights are on). When press the brake (both) brake lights come on. On of the bulbs was burnt,replaced but running tail light wont come on... Any ideas? I discarted a mass problem otherwise brake lights wont come on either... same as with the fuses...

    check connectors from bulb socket to harness.
    clean and grease the bulb sockets with bulb grease

    check for 12 volts in the socket base contacts

    I'll check that but why should be working with the breaks and not with running lights. Same sockets, same 12 v...

    different wiring circuits
    700light.PNG power lead for tail light comes directly from ignition switch. brake lights different circuit (gray shade)
    you are using a dual filament bulb 1157 bulb

    stupid thought, but you are talking about that running lights, but those only come on with the lights switch activated. Is the light switch on? The headlight automatically comes on with the bike running (for safety)

    Thats right,running lights in the front plus head light is on everytime younturn the key but not the tailgate

    first check socket base connections inside the holder for 12 volts with key on. only 1 will give you 12 volts the other contact is brake light which will give you 12 volts when brake peddle is depressed,

    with key on
    measure from socket body to contact . .
    if you do not get 12 volts
    check the wire harness connectors. see if you get 12 volts at main harness connector should be a blue wire
    if you get 12 volts problem is from light socket to connector
    make sure they are clean and tight.
