I have 0 knowledge about motorcycles or engines...

I bought an '82 yamaha xj650 maxim and was wondering (because there are multiple drain plugs) if oil comes out of the plug underneath the motorcycle and out of the shift side? Also does the fill hole on the brake side fill both/the whole compartment or is there another fill hole that i should be aware of? Basically do all of those plugs lead to the same fluid or are they different?

Next, the shaft drive has its only fluid with one drain and one fill hole on the casing attached to the rear wheel, correct?

I know this stuff is elementary and annoying but im new to the forum, couldn't find my way to any super helpful threads, and google wasn't quite doing the job for me.

One drain plug to worry about is just below oil filter and yes filler cap is where you fill with 10w40 2.6 litres. The other plugs are main oil galley caps Don’t remove them as they are prone to breaking when trying to remove them.

Final drive is correct one drain and one fill point.

    You're not Canadian.
No need to apologise in advance.

There is also a drain plug for the middle gear (further back, harder to see, and near the exhaust crossover pipe.
    Don't touch it either.

Haynes still makes a service manual for your bike. Get one.
The Yamaha manual is out of print, but they come up on Ebay occasionally.

Sorry, but I'm Canadian, and that offends me!
See? I put the quote before the apology!
