Starter motor????

    Hi,all,just developed a prob with my xj400,just after starting,something is making a hell of a screaching noise!!,goes away after a short while,the starter is disengaging after releasing the starter button so,it`s not sticking on,any help would be great.

    starter motors probably shot if its making that screeching noise or its not catching correctly.

    Bad news that noise! Pull your starter and clean it out, all of it. Be prepaired to rebuild it with new bearings, brushes and fresh grease.

    What a numpty!!!!! found the mstery screaching noise!!!! almost too embarrased to fess,`twas the tacho drive/cable/mechanism was dry!!!!! lubed it all up,and voila!!!!
