I plan to continue making long distance trips with my Seca 550. I make sure that the maintenance is up to date such as, checking my alternator brush length and replacing the stock fuse box. What would you carry, for spare parts, to make sure you don't get stranded? I'm wondering about things like a rectifier, spare coil and TCI unit? Headlight is still stock. Time for an upgrade and a spare bulb?
    Here is my list:
    1. Spare fuses
    2. Throttle cable
    3. Clutch cable

It's a short list so far, but I've never had a problem yet. OK I lied. The fuse box gave me grief a couple years ago but I replaced that.

If you put too much gear on it, it will be hard to find a seat. Just make sure the bike has fresh tires and a recent tune up. If you are going for more than a thousand miles, make sure that the toolkit has the tools in it. You will need to lube and adjust the chain. If it were me I would bring the toolki,t chain lube and a credit card. No need to carry all that other stuff. Took my seca 550 to Cabo San Lucas about 20 years ago. Never had a problem. Took my Seca Turbo to Denver from Los Angeles last year. Both trips were over 1000 miles one way. Never took more than the tool kit and clothes.

After taking long hauls in the past I've found that one thing above all to have in your pocket is the grace of God. I've been in situations where I think thats the only way I got away without pushing my bike in the river and walking away from motoring. No matter how hard I play the should I take it or leave it game, you'll never be able to plan for everything. Unless you take a chase van on all your rides.

The one thing that I rely on very much is an inexpensive GPS unit, especially if you take the road less traveled. Also taking a friend is a good way to ensure help is close at hand.

I alway carry a complete tool kit, not the little MC one, spare clutch and throttle cables, sparkplugs, lamp bulbs for the headlight and tail light, jumper cables, small gas can and a can of Fix-A-Flat but after getting a flat in the rear tire due to a big nail in Nogales the Fix-A-Flat wouldn't fix ! now also carry a tire patching kit and an air pump too, don't want to get stranded in the desert again!
