Hi. I have refurbished an old Yamaha XJ to almost brand new. Replaced gaskets, cleaned and changed all in the carborators, adjusted valve clearance etc.. Sometimes but not always I can hear a small ticking sound from left side of engine at the valve cover. Only when engine has been hot. It start around 3000rpm and disappear when 4000rpm and sometimes I can hear it at Lowe rpm. Sometimes during the ride it also completely disapear. The engine runs and sound nice - just as a sewing machine and smooth. What could it be and should I be worried?. Yamaha XJ 750 Seca from 1982. Just over 60 000km?.

    Thanks in advance

    That's normal.
Some of the 650 and 750 cam caps allowed a bit more cam endplay than Yamaha intended. The result is that noise.
Somwehere around here is an old thread with a copy of the TSB. Yamaha's conclusion (which I agree with) is that the endplay is not excessive, and the only result is increased valvetarain noise.
