well it has been two and a half years from me finishing the bike to get to ride it i have now finished it completely has had another paint job and decals fitted , the decals were the problem i could not get them , i did not use the bike last summer but i will this summer as i can now show it off , i think this has turned out well and it is possibly the only red xj 550 in the uk .

Very nice work! Beautiful outcome! I have the same bike, but nowhere near being finished. Although I ride mine every other week, it has an issue having to do with a stretched primary chain. Only noticeable at idle. I also need to remove a couple of dents removed and repaint. Looking at your beautiful bike is good motivation. Thanks for sharing and enjoy riding her this summer.

    What's the idle set at?
The 500 has a hydraulic primary chain adjuster, and is known to be a tad slack at idle. Bump the idle speed up and the tapping should diminish.
It's unlikely that the chain has worn enough for it to be the issue.

Make sure that the clutch cable clears the header pipe and not melt to it. Nice looking exhaust and better looking bike.

many thanks for your comments have ordered some heat shield wrap for the clutch cable .

i wont be keeping the exhaust on as i want the standard two pipe system back on when it is re chromed, so in the spring i will be putting it back to standard and selling the motad exhaust as i wont be needing it any more .

I zip tied the clutch cable to the down tube of the frame to keep it away from the headers.
