Finally got a day over 35 degrees and received my Colortune from the UK so I had to give it a go.

I’d appreciate it if you all would check out the video and provide some professional feedback on what you can see and hear. Sorry for the bouncing video, pretty sure it was due to the earthquake. It’s not really warm enough for a test ride, maybe next weekend

If anyone is interested, I ended up with two Colortunes and only need one, I am willing to sell the other for what I paid plus shipping. Plus side you don’t have to wait 6 weeks to receive it.

Get the engine at operating temp and install the colotune. At idle, close the pilot screw until you see white (lean). Open the pilot screw until the white disappears. Repeat for all 4 cylinders. Put the colortune plug back in its box, you are finished with it. Now, install new plugs and ride the bike for 10-15 miles. Remove the plugs and look at them. You want a nice light gray or brown color. If still white, open the pilot screw about the width of a dime, install the plugs and take another ride and read the plugs again. Continue this process until you get the nice light gray or brown color on each plug. You're done. I did mine over about ten days. (New plugs make reading them much easier.)

Thanks for the direction, so I may have to a couple months until it gets above 40. Not a fan of winter riding myself. Thanks again for the response.

The blue color seems about correct, and the colortune seems to be grounding (especially on #3), so you may want to apply some electrical tape over the plug insulator and the wire that screws into it to prevent the arcing.

As Tabaka45 observes above, the proper way to use the colortune is to warm up the engine, install the colortune, start the engine and run at idle and then adjust each cylinder pilot (mixture) screw out so that the "color"just begins to turn orange/yellow...….this indicate a rich mixture. Then turn the screw in ever-so-slowly, so that the cylinder turns JUST BARELY back to the blue color. This "knife edge" between orange and blue is where the cylinder should be combusting. AND if you must err, err on the side of orange. Just slightly rich is OK for a high-performance, air-cooled engine.

ALSO: you really should synch the engineboth before and in-between each cylinder's colortune adjustment:

    SYNCH ENGINE
    COLORTUNE CYLINDER #1
    RE-SYNCH ENGINE
    COLORTUNE CYLINDER #2
    RE-SYNCH ENGINE
    COLORTUNE CYLINDER #3
    RE-SYNCH ENGINE
    COLORTUNE CYLINDER #4
    RE-SYNCH ENGINE

Colortuning a cylinder changes the engine synch, and you want the engine in-synch when colortuning………...and after you have run thru that entire sequence/procedure once, then do it again, just to be sure.

WARNING: let the colortune plug cool down for a few moments between cylinder uses, you do not want it getting too hot, the clear window can crack or cloud over if it gets too hot. For the same reasons, do not rev then engine during the procedure, colortuning is for idle use only, and the colors seen at higher revs tell you nothing meaningful.
