Havent visited the site much in recent years but still have the XJ750, (10 years now). Still a few names that I recognise on the forums.
As were all traveling around in separate vehicles ATM thought id take the XJ to work.
Only the second run out this year and drove really well for a 38 yr old machine. All until i arrived at work at tried to select neutral! Gear lever jammed and prospect of 45mile journey in 1st gear - not gonna happen.
Had to push bike onto the back of a friends truck to get home.
As were all on lockdown I put the bike in the garage and pulled L/H cover and gear selector. Primary chain has started disintegrating, so im in for a little bit of major work in the near future..
As i only use the XJ for approx 500mile a year, i am going to carry on running the old girl for a couple more years until i retire then pull the motor and give a full overhaul/ rebuild.
My Son donated a Triumph Speed four to me a couple of years ago which ive tinkered with and re-shimmed the cams so ive still got a toy to play with , fuel injected model and bit of a crutch rocket so i need to ease up on the throttle to keep my clean licence.
Keep safe out their fellow XJ enthusiasts im pretty sure our governments are not giving us the full picture on this current health crisis..and keep fettling/ tinkering those bikes.

Hi Franz, thanks for part no, looks the same and ordered one through fowlers. I dont plan to strip it for a while unless i get bored. just getting all the parts in place.
could probably clean and tidy garage first so can see where im going!

Hi Hogfiddles, been busy with being a grandparent along with many other things!
But us pirates always bounce back.. however the Redbeard is 80% white now. Us Gingers dont go grey.. LOL
As others have said before me, there is a font of knowledge on this site to help and people are happy to assist.
a quick search revealed my problem and a solution so the XJ is back on the road. :)
