Hey guys , just put the xj back together and popped new plugs in after a carb clean ,

The bike is a custom and has pod filters , heres a pic of one of the plugs after about 40 miles , is this ok or way to lean ? Do I need to go bigger pilot and main jets ?

Well that sure looks to be too lean.
Having a set of pods on it will make it a trial and error to get it the best you can, and likely not get it 100%.

I would be going up one size on the pilots first, and make sure you color tune / sync the carbs at idle.
Verify the float level by wet setting them, then you can start working on dialing in the mains.

    Cheers hack,
All float levels have been done so I know there good

I know everyone on here hate pods on these bikes but thats all I have room for on the bike ,

So you would recommend starting with a 42 pilot but not change the main straight away ?

The old plug looks good. Not sure how long it was in there? (Rust on it)
Also, is that the condition of the plug as it came out with you running the pods?

So you said the wet setting of float levels is good. Next is before you start changing jets, as I mentioned previously:
And, what do you mean by "a carb clean"?

Yer the bike was on pods when I got it, only change was a new 4 into 1 exhaust , originally had 4 into 2 delkevic

Carb clean means I stripped and cleaned out the jets, floats, bowls and put the air line on every passage ,

On the colour tune I can seem to get it looking rich enough in colour , my thoughts were maby the yics system evening any adjustments I make across the other carbs ?

My vaccum gauges are currently with a friend so I can't do that at the moment but I have bench synced

Likely the original choice of the jet sizes were close based on the picture of the original plug.

I don't see which type of bike you have, and it's a great idea to put it in your signature, so we all know.
You mentioned the YICS system, and you'll definitely need a block off too to get the settings right.
Search the forums and see if there's any options that may help you.

Also, check into the correct jet positions, some in the past have mixed them up and have posted on the forums here.

I stripped the tank (I painted it black a whole ago) in the kind of rusting slightly then clear coating ,

Does anyone have any experience with rust patina them clearing ? Any tips maby ?
