Glad I joined this page. New to the carb rebuild process, so hope to find some answers. I am doing a rebuild on an 81 xj650 and as I was inspecting the carbs and awaiting my rebuild kit (still waiting lol) I noticed on the air intake side a jet was missing on one side of the #1 carb..where the others had one on each side..right and left. Is there supposed to be 2 in each? Or is there a reason for one to be missing? Some help and explanation would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

Yes— there should be a 36 on each side of the intake for each carburetor..... total of 8

Ok awesome! The rebuild kit contains replacements for them, just wanted to make sure I was going to be doing it the correct way. Thank you!

The carbs really aren't in bad condition or anything, I plan on just doing a breakdown and cleaning things up..got it just in case..bike was running b4 I acquired it from my uncle..so don't see having major issues. But like I said I'm new to this stuff but pretty mechanically inclined..wasn't a cheap 20$ kit and the person had sold a few hundred w good reviews..came from California bc they have several distributors. But originally "Taiwan" I guess.

Because MOST ebay/amazon/etc.... kits are are generic kits to cover “a bunch” of bikes. So, they are inherently NOT specific. I have NEVER had success with those types of kits, and I have rebuilt MANY MANY racks. I get my kits from Len Chacal, our parts supplier here. Only. That way I KNOW the parts are they RIGHT parts to begin with.

So, GOOD LUCK with your kits.
