Pilot fuel jets on XJ550 seca

    I've been away for the last few years, enjoying my restored bike. But... I guess the winter gas got to the bike, and it now slowly dies at idle, even after warming up. So, off came the carbs and I cleaned them all out.

    I just need a reminder - are the pilot jets are suppose to be seated 2.5 - 3 turns from the bottom, is that right?

    You mean the mixture screws and yes you are correct.

    Oh wait a second. My manual call these 'starter plungers'. Are these the ones that need to be backed up 2.5 turns?

    Those look like pilot jets to me in your picture. Pilot jets need to be seated tight in the body of the carb.

    That picture looks like a mixture screw to me.

    In post #3, the image is pilot fuel jets.

    In post #5, the image shows a pilot mixture screw (missing the washer and the o-ring).

    The starter plungers aren't pictured (yet).

    So it's the pilot mixture screw that's backed off from the bottom by 2.5 turns or so?

    Yes,most like a bit more then that from what i have heard.
