Replacing engine seals

    My question is to replace the output shaft seal in front of the u-joint.
    Replace the seal behind the stator. Replace the seals behind the clutch and timing hub do you need to split the cases ?

    No you can get the output shaft off the engine by taking out the four bolts. You might have to slacken off crankcase bolts near it a little and then retorque them up after refitting. There is the seal and a big O ring to be replaced.

    Keep your shims between the driveshaft and crankcase in the same location to control backlash in the bevel gears. I used cable ties to keep the shims in the original positions pictured on the driveshaft during my engine rebuild.

    Tabaka has a how to replace the seal behind the stator on here and he didn't split the cases. The seal behind the pick up coils has a lip so it is tricky to get it out. Chacal sells a replacement which has no lip and can be fitted without splitting the cases.

    Brain fog on the clutch seal LOL
    Sounds like none of them are practical to replace or recommend per service manual except maybe the stator seal.

    Better leaving them if none are leaking. I only changed mine which were not leaking because l had split the cases.

    With some hassle all the engine seals can be replaced without splitting the casing, not an easy job though. I wouldn't recommend it unless they are leaking as Franz mentioned. The seals that might be difficult to get out are the crank seals if they are original. Reason is stock cranks seals have a lip on the outer diameter that fits into the casing. The replacement seals don't have a lip so they can be refitted.

    Interesting... don't have any leaks to a drip , just noticed some light seepage from the driveshaft boot and the stator cover and then clean it up and doesn't seem to come back to any volume.

    Alternator one is replaceable. Driveshaft one depends on how much access you have. I had my engine out of the frame so was easier to get the driveshaft out of the case. Best to monitor them as you are doing.
