I want to flush my Seca out.
    I have 8 or 9 quarts of 5w-30 motoroil that I dont have a use for...its texas
Can I flush out the sump w/o any troubles.
No riding, just idle and drain.
It is a synthetic blend I think, Motorcraft.
I use Valvoline or Castrol 20-50 when the fun begins

That 5W30 is going to have those darn energy conserving additives in it that we worry about with wet clutches.

I'd go to Wal*Mart and get some of their Accel brand 10W40. It is about $1.27/quart and it doesn't have any friction modifiers in it.

Just one simple question about the subject of oil change.

My XJ600 has an oil cooler mounted on the front of the bike. Having never owned a bike with and oil cooler attached when i drain the oil from the sump do i need to drain it from any other plug.

I hoping that draining the oil from the sump after letting the bike warm up will be fine, but please let me know asap as i am atempting it tomorrow at some point.

How much oil should the engine hold (I dont want to overfill it)

I plan to change the filter as well.

Can anyone reccomend a good quality oil I can use?

AF - not sure if you want to use that oil for the flush (possible clutch contamination), or if its even needed. Most people just add either kerosene or an oil flush product to the existing oil, run it, drain completely, and refill with good clean oil.
For the flush product, I'm a big fan of Seafoam myself.

WMS - draining at the sump should be fine - if you needed to drain from anywhere else it would be pretty obvious. I personally don't know the capacity for a 600 with oil cooler, but I'd hazard a guess at somewhere around 3.5 liters. As for oil recommendations - that's a whole can of worms and I'm not going there. I personally like diesel oils like Shell Rotella, or a good automotive oil that has no friction modifiers ("energy conserving").

    Altus,

I agree with the Seafoam, added about 2-3 oz to the oil a few weeks back.
I guess if the oil is dirty and then changed it BECOMES clean.
Just need to change again sooner ;)

There was some cluch slippage already...hoping it was just an oil situation.
Minimal slippage but I ride like a bat outta heck! Poss explination right there!!!
