I have noticed alot of broken clutch cables latley. Has anyone givin thoughts of a hydrolic clutch system? I would think a master and slave might work

The Clutch Cables are giving-out after 20~25 Years of faithful service. They don't last forever, but ... 20 Years of so ain't bad.

Why try to re-engineer what works just fine in the first place?

But, to keep your Thread alive ... I'll ask this:

Where and how would you mount and connect the Hydraulic Slave Cylinder?

It's been done before on things like RD350LC so anything is possible if you want to put the time and effort into it

Yep, old age and lack of lube will do that to a cable.

ABout the only XJ that I know of that can be simply converted is the XJ1100.

This is basically due to the casing design over the clutch plates.

It would be possible on any XJ, but you would be sacrificing the clutch side engine casing in a irreversible way. Ie, cut and drill.

You would also need some serious fabrication skills to overcome the differences in the way the clutch lever operates.

In short, Yes it could be done. But would it be worth it?

For those with XJ 1100's who may be thinking about it, fabrication skills are still needed, but nothing too complicated.

I'll look up the link on howto and post later.

    Edit: >> Looky Here.

I was thinking of using having a slave cylinder at the arm of the clutch on the top of the case. I'm not sure if it would have enough throw to disengage the clutch.

I doubt if you'll get enough throw out of a Bike Hydraulic Slave Cylinder.
But, if you search online and find the Slave Cylinder to the 1970's era MGB Roadster ... you just might be able to adapt that type of Slave Cylinder to do the trick.

    You need throw.
    You need travel.
    You need slim design.
And you need an actuating arm that you can drill or weld to.

The old MGB Slave Cylinder Just might fill the Bill.
    Might.
    Might not.

Maybe sticking with the tried and true clutch cable will be the best way to go for now. I may play with idea later when I have more time. Thanks for all the suggestions and opinions. I was looking for a ready to go bolt on kit.
