I need some help with the ignition switch on my xj750 maxim, I have been searching for a used switch and found several for the xj650 but when I look at part numbers they are different , so I guess what I am asking is will any other ignition switch work on the xj 750 maxim.

I would like to know this also, the ignition switchon my XJ750 MaximX is getting pretty funky in that the key sometimes turns the switch, sometimes I have to play with it to get it to turn. I can remove the key from the ignition switch too with the bike running.

    Thanks,
    Chuck

    Replace the Ignition Switch.
The Ignition Switch tumblers are getting worn-out to the point where any object inserted into the Ignition Switck Key Slot will turn the switch and allow the Bike to be started.

Replacing the whole Ignition Switch will be LESS expensive than having your Ignition Switch repaired.

The amount of Labor involved will be the same because the Ignition Switch Assembly will have to be removed and replaced.
Replacing it with a New Switch will save the additional cost of having your Switch overhauled by a locksmith.

You should be able to fine an OEM Factory Ignition for under 50-Dollars.

a new ignition switch new, is about $100 I have searched a ton of junk yards they want around $80, but I have found several that fit a xj650 maxim for as cheap as $25 I compaired part numbers from the 650 and 750and they are different the 650 # is 4h7-82508-50 and the 750 is 5g2-82508-50 but I have no idea if they are compatable

I'll let you know tomorrow. I bought a new ignitions switch for my xj550 maxim (compatible with the xj650 also) before I got my xj750. So I'm going to try it on there tomorrow as it's in much better shape.

I think that the first 3 digits apply to the particular model. As the rest of the numbers are the same, I'm pretty sure that the items are the same.

I've looked at a good few pics on ebay for these ignition switches & the -82 &'83 650 & 750 switches look identical.

I finally got around to putting my xj550 ignition onto my xj750. Let me tell you it wasn't as easy as I hoped for. They are definitely not identical. It's a lot simpler know that I know how to do it. It's kind of complicated so I wrote up a "HOW TO" at my website.

Check it out and let me know what you think: http://www.wjcollins.com/xj750-igniton-switch
