Finally got my Xj600 85 started the other day and noticed a considerable oil leak coming from behind the left hand side cover we're the timing rotor sits, presume it's coming from the crankshaft oil seal. But there's no way to get at the seal when I removed the pick ups and timing rotor, is this a full strip down again or is there any other way to repair and fix this? Really don't have the time to strip it all down again anyone have any ideas? IMG_20210328_132203.jpg IMG_20210328_130025.jpg

You can get a seal which has no lip on it and can be fitted without splitting the crankcases. Your old seal will have lip but one of the members on this forum got the old seal with the lip out without splitting the cases.

Really? I can't see how you can do it as the seal is behind the aluminium isn't it? wedged between the two cases further in. Where do you buy the seal anyway without the lip and I'll look into getting it out. Thanks

Hey mark911, I agree with bensalf, doesn't appear to have a seal.
Might be good to find a pic showing that area with seal for comparison.
