It's not about what you got - it's about who you have to leave it to - no one here is taking one xj with them....
And, as my grandson says, "you can only ride one bike"

Okay, I'm game. I enjoy checking out everyone's taste in bikes although I know some bikes just fall into your possession due to convenience or an impulsive reaction to just what looks cool! The early ones I acquired didn't really have a theme to them but did influence my future purchases. Now the main objective for my collection (obsession) is finding bikes that were at or near the top of the performance charts for their respective era. And when people inevitably ask... WHY??? (you can only ride one at a time) Well, they bring me great joy. They are an investment I can enjoy and when it comes time to sell I will make a tidy profit on almost all of them. I also enjoy the challenge of tinkering with them, learning the characteristics of the various engineering marvels/breakthroughs as they progressed and improved through the years and keeps my mind working as I approach retirement.

1971 Yamaha AT1 125 (my only 2 stroke and had one when I was 14)
    1976 Honda CB750F
1981 Suzuki GS550T (am original owner)
    1982 Honda CB750F
    1983 Kawasaki GPz750
1984 ZX900A1 (Top Gun bike and 1st Ninja)
    1984 Honda V65 Sabre
    1985 Yamaha XJ700X Maxim X
    1986 Yamaha FZX700 Fazer x 2 (highly underrated)
    1988 Yamaha FZR750RU
    1994 Yamaha FZR1000 x 2
    1996 Honda CBR900RR
    2003 Honda CBR1100XX
    2006 HD VRSCR Street Rod

    Still looking for
    1998 Yamaha YZF R1
    Kawasaki ZX7R
    1999 Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa
    To be continued...

@Mechanic1978 As to your note about your H-D X90: It was AMF that owned Harley Davidson and bought half of Aermacchi's motorcycle division.

    As to my garage inventory:

    1982 XJ750 Seca
    1990 Mazda Miata
    A bunch of spare parts.
A whole lot of tools and stuff to make things with.

I would buy one of those. I see them in the UK but they look different from your machine. Must have a lot of low down power.

I bought it from a former student of mine. She wanted to sell it so she could buy a bigger bike—— lol.

she’s a neighbor a few mi away, and knows I am into the xj scene. She let me pay it off in increments as xj parts sold and xj repairs/service were done, so it was bough and paid for via xj’s:)

Question for @hogfiddles - you don't have to answer of course, but I'm curious if you have a plan - long or short term, for all your bikes? I can see you do some buying, selling and repairs, but you do have a lot of xj's, and none of us is going to be here forever...
I have a tiny collection, just two whole ones and a 900 in frame and engine only, so I'm an amateur at this.

    Garage?

Lost use of my late father's garage when the family home got sold after his passing. At that point, I had 85 1200 naked Yamaha Venture, 81 Honda CB900C with a late 70s CB750 for parts, and a 75 Yamaha TX500 hardtail bobber project bike. Had to give up all but the Venture which someone is buying off me so I can replace it with an 83 XJ750 Maxim (bit smaller, so will be easier on my bad legs that have some vascular issues)

All the rest of my stuff (about 85% is vintage pro audio equipment) is currently soaking me for monthy rent on an 8x16 storage unit

    2006 Yamaha WR250F great play/trail bike
2004 Kawasaki Mule father in law sold the cottage got it for free but just takes up space.

Got to get a bigger garage too many bikes that I want and the neighbors hate the old boat sitting in the driveway.
