Well I'll start off just like everyone else and introduce myself. Name's Brian and I ride a '81 seca 750 and it has been passed down from my dad now the he finally got his vmax. I was also the reason for the bike going into and coming out of storage. Dad bought the seca new in '81 rode it low miles for seven years until he knew I was coming along and then just parked it. Then 16 years after that I pulled it out cleaned it up and attempted to get it running, with a little help from a local shop It is now running and is a very fun machine. Now the question, No one makes pipes for our bikes anymore do they?

    Brian

Jardine and MAC still have complete exhausts for our machines. Look at a Dennis Kirk catalog.

Unless your stock exhaust is rotted out,I wouldn't mess with it. Rarely do you find such a nice original bike as your Seca. That bike is MINT!

Well I would keep the originals, no doubt, just want a little more sound out of it. Thanks for the compliments, I did take it entirely apart (except for pulling out the driveline) And I say this with a little embarassment, the tires are original too. Its only been back on the road for a year now. There some minor pitting in some of the aluminum but I'll be taking care of that later this winter.

You have a couple of choices regarding getting a Mint Looking Bike to be LOUDER!

Change the whole Exhaust over to an aftermarket system and have the bike be louder and run substantially worse not matter how much tuning you try and do.

    -Or-

Leave it Bone Stock and put it on the edge of fine tuning with the Stock Exhaust and let it be both the quietest and fastest bike on your block.

If you are going to make a decision based on how the bike sounds ... take any small prize of the Bottom row.

If you are going to leave it Stock and tune that Baby up right ... take a Big prize of the Top Shelf.

Don't hack it up just to have a loud bike.
    The Bumper Sticker should read:

    "Loud Pipes ruin your hearing!"

Well I understand your reasoning Rick, Just wanted something a lil edgier, didnt realize it would make retuning that hard, but thats why I joined the forum! So I spose if I wanna figure how to get the best tune out of it, I should start reading the mods section then, unless someone wants to give me tips so I dont have to search? lol And yes I plan on a decent set of tires! Who makes aftermarket wheels for the XJ's then? I'll stop now before I get flamed for carrying this on in the Lounge

    Brian, welcome.
You won't/shouldn't get flamed for asking a question. The lounge is meant for this. Ask away. The only request we (the community) have is that you make an attempt to research if your questions have already been answered in a previous thread. Hit the search function and have a look around. Mountains of info have been posted already but it never hurts to dust things off now and again.
Your bike is a dream! Get your tires replaced asap, they are too old to be safe anymore. Glad to have you aboard and welcome to the fold.

Yeah, the first time you try to drag a peg those tires will wash out on you! And that's the best looking stock XJ I've seen, it's so clean !
I have the fork mount fairing, bracket and windshield--I'll PM you.
I bought Avon tires that are doing the job for me.
