    Hi Guys,
I'm new to the forum, but not new to bikes.
I'm rebuilding the Calipers and actually the whole brake system on a buddies XJ750RH.
I've gotten the Front calipers all cleaned up including getting the seal grooves absolutely clean.
I have put in New Stainless Steel pistons and new main piston seal and dust seal.
I have the cleaned shims in and the Anti-Rattle Spring in.

I've got the calipers pretty much ready to go with new Pads as well.

    Now, my question.

The Pad Retaining Pin goes in nice and snug. Once the pin is in, the pads don't really want to move easily.
When the piston is fully retracted, the pads will barely move. I do realize that there should be some friction, but wondering how tightly the Pad Retaining Pin should make the pads.

Is this normal? Or should the pads be free to move?

    Thanks,
    Charlie

The pads should have some movement. I just went through this with my pads. Use a file to file down the holes a bit where the pins go through. Soap and water as the lub. Don't get it on the pads. Good luck.

    XJrider,
Thanks, I polished the Pin and now have a little side to side movement, looks more like what I'm used to seeing. :)
    Thanks,
    Charlie

I have the same issue as above but I haven't filed down the hole in the pads. I had my calipers powder coated and I just got them back and putting things together. I installed the support pad and pads and then put the pad retaining pin in and it seems like the pads are tight and don't move too freely. Should they? I expect they should be snug but snug is snug? Can I put the Red grease that came with the new seals I purchased from Len at xj4ever on the retaining pin and the support pad where the brake hits it? I know the piston should retract to allow the pads to move off the rotors but not sure if it would. Any ideas? One more question. Is there a good thread for rebuilding the '83 750K calipers?
Thank you for your help and wisdom.
