I had my calipers powder coated and I just got them back and putting things together. I installed the support pad and pads and then put the pad retaining pin in and it seems like the pads are tight and don't move/slide too freely. Should they? I expect they should be snug but how tight is tight? Could the powder coat have added a few mm that made them tight or maybe they're ok.
Can I put the Red grease that came with the new seals I purchased from Len at xj4ever on the retaining pin and the support pad where the brake hits it and can I also use this grease on the slider pins? I know the piston should retract to allow the pads to move off the rotors but not sure if it would. Any ideas? One more question. Is there a good thread for rebuilding the '83 750K calipers?
Thank you for your help and wisdom.

That tightness is common due to a manufacturing issue that will likely never get resolved. Take a round file and open the holes up.

The slider pins get greased (they have a cover to keep dirt out). Nothing else does. The caliper needs to run dry or dirt and grit will bind it up and/or damage the polished sliding surfaces.

I put a light... coat of grease on the the edges of the brake pads where they slide on the surfaces of the caliper hardware, tight is good so that they don't rattle ,apply the brake a few times and if the wheel spins freely your good...

Not a good idea. Once hot it's going to contaminate the pads.
