I recently painted a CB 450 with Rustoleum flatblack from a rattlecan. I love the look,as this bike is going to be sort of a cafe /rat rod. However, any time something brushes against it,it leaves a tell-tale shiny area. Any suggestions for a durable spray can flat that will stay flat? The paint I used is Rustoleum Rust Reformer, and is very fuel resistant, just not very scuff resistant. Not that I intentionally scuff my gas tank, but in the real world, these things happen. Thanks guys!

How gas resistant? (have you tested it ? )
Other wise,m have you tried some Back to Black or similar product, supposed to be good for all flat finishes.
I did mine flat blacu ising duplicolor high heat , NOT very gas resistant, also scuffs, Back to Black helped some...

Now looking at spray on truck bed liner, saw an SV-650 that was sprayed with the Rhino-liner rattle can, looked cool

my xj has duplicolor bed liner on the tank, and it holds up great. my kz has duplicolor hi-temp clear over hi temp enamel, and it's also holding up great. pics of both in my gallery.

Does the bed liner leave a smooth finish or is it rough?

it's not too bad. it's far from "smooth", but not anywhere near a raised releif map of the rockies. a lot of it is in the application technique too. if you back way off and let 'er rip, it leaves more texture than quick closer strokes. undetectable in pictures, but there's no hiding it in person. I think the key to getting it looking good is to keep it all as consistant as possible.

Kevineleven,is the bedliner in a spray can,or did you have to use a compressor? Is it scuff resistant? Does it look as good in person as it does in the photo?Sorry to ask a million questions,But I just have to know.
    Thanks,
    Dan

Spray can Duplicolor. It holds up great to everything short of an intentional strike. You could probably gouge it if you really tried to, but for accidental bumps and scrapes, it's a million times more durable than paint. In reality it looks/feels almost exactly the texture of an orange peel. It's had gas all over it and you'd never know to look. I do wax it, and occasionaly ArmorAll it.

If I remember right it's about $7 or 8 a can. 1 can did my tank, struts, trees, headlight/gauge mounts, fwd controls and other littl bits with some left over. It's DUPLICOLOR in a tall blue can. The other stuff I've seen (Rhino, Line-X) leaves a far more textured finish.

The gauge is indeed the Electrosport. Their website is very dated, but I called them up to order and it went very smooth. It has speed, tach, indicator lights (turn, oil, neutral, battery, hibeam) and is magnetic pickup- very easy to install. About $130 shipped. 2 trips, total miles, CLOCK, trip time, top speed, top revs,... it does a lot for what it is. I love it. Looks great at night.

Sorry for the giant pic, but you can see the texture a little better in this shot.

Hey guys. I never thought of the truck bed liner. Looks very cool. If you do end up going with flat black paint, you could clear it with this stuff:

    www.uschem.com/product...glish).pdf

It's an aerosol clear coat but has hardener in it. So, it's supposed to hold up VERY well to just about anything.

    Just thought I'd chime in....
