Hi everyone. New to this forum but have read a lot of good things. A little history...years ago I had an unfaired 82xj750 and loved it but my hearing is not very good and the wind noise around my head bothered me. Tried various windshields but no real help so I moved on. I recently found a 1983 xj750r with a factory fairing so I thought I would try that. The stock windshield was broken so I ordered one from Gustofsan Plastics out of Florida with a flip up at the rear. Put it on and if I raise myself off the seat 3 or 4" there is a beautiful quiet spot. Cut about an inch off the top of the windshield and managed to lower the quiet spot a little but still over my head far enough that I cannot actually sit on the seat for my head to be in it. Then I tried piecing the stock windshield together (it does not have an upturn at the back) but is almost the same length as the Gustofson one. Quiet spot still well above my head. I have tried raising the base of the windshield to let air in under with no change. Can anyone help? I love the way the bike sits, rides and handles but cannot stand the wind noise! I am 5' 8" with a 31" inseam to give you an idea of torso. Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I already wear ear plugs and they help a lot but still not as quiet as I would like. Not much sense in a fairing and windshield to me if you still need the same hearing protection you would need without them....aside from protection from the elements.

I have the sport fairing on my Seca , it has the tall shield, but yes if it was a few inches taller it would be better, my local yamaha dealer gave me two windshields for Star motorcycles thinking about cutting one up to figure a way to put it on so it is not permanent.

the wind shield is mainly for reducing the fatigue caused by the wind buffiting of riding and redirecting the cold air.
some helmets are better than others for reducing air noise too. it is all about how they fit around the neck and how well the face shield fits to the helmet .
a lot of noise is associated with half or 3/4 helmets, full face are quietest.
even with a windshield you should still use ear plugs.

Nice looking Seca. Your windshield looks much taller than mine. Do you mind telling me how tall you are? I have mocked something up on mine that looks to be about the same height as yours. Hopefully it will get warm enough today foe me to go try it out. Thanks.

Agreed. Although in the current situation, I get more buffering and wind noise with the windshield than I do if I stand up straight on the pegs with my head well above the windshield My helmet is Shoei RF700 and it is very quiet. The windshield is causing my issues and I just need to find the correct configuration.

Should have asked when I asked how tall you were....how tall is your windshield? Measured from the front edge where it sits in fairing to the topmost point. Thanks in advance and sorry to be a pain.

I have a Memphis Shades Hellcat windshield on my XJ700 and I have no helmet shake--I'm 5'8". It is as good if not better than the Memphis Shades Memphis Fats windshield I have on my Honda 750. I also wear ear plugs--specifically the swimmer's plugs at Walgreens. They are inexpensive and better than anything I have worn before.

I attached one of these doohickeys. Looks kind of goofy but helps a lot. This is a cheapo Amazon version- not the expensive one with a fancy name.
