Hi all I've been in the process of restoring a maxim x, and I suspect the coils are bad which is giving me weak spark. I measured the resistances of them, and all fall within spec except the primary windings at 3.3ohms on both coils. I was wondering if anyone had any luck/knew a specific replacement for the coils that arnt from Yamaha or the Dyno coils. 200 dollars is a bit out of budget for this bike, so I wanted to stick to some "oem like quality" replacement coils for like 50bucks. Thanks for the help.

Thank you so much, do you know the spec for the stock coils, I think they are primary 2.5ohm and secondary 23k ohms??? But I'm not sure...

Stock coils I have got primary 2.7 ohms and secondary is 13.2 K ohms.

Yall are awesome, you get into the weeds and go through so many forums.... Eventually you need something like the primary windings, remember seeing it, but not remembering where!!!

Honda CB750 coils fit right into the stock location only thing had to desolder the wire connector off the old coil and crimped on new wire ends. I have ran these for three years and also put them on my other Seca . The coils are like 44.00 each .

The CB750 coils are going to be a creative (very creative.) fit onto XJ700 models, as the mounting hole spacing in the central bar is quite a bit different between XJ700's and, basically, "all other" XJ models (this applies to both the air-cooled XJ700's and the water-cooled XJ700-X models, but for different reasons). And on the XJ700-X (and XJ750-X) models, it gets even more difficult, because the coils are mounted into a stamped metal bracket that hangs above the engine........the stock coils for all the XJ700 ---- besides having the different mounting hole spacings ---- are also what I refer to as the "small body" coils, they're "shrunk" (in almost every dimension: length - width - and "fatness") compared to the non-XJ700 coils......just so they can fit into such space-challenged areas.

I'm not saying it can't be done, but..............have the blowtorch and big hammer at the ready.
