Hi, new to the forum and XJ's. I have an XJ650 4KO European model (manufactured 1981, registered 1982 I think). I have been doing the easy things like oil, filters change, final drive oil, plugs etc. I was looking at adjusting camchain but struggling to locate adjuster - is that it in photo 1 ? If yes, how do you get a spanner on it ? Secondly, I took bike out for a quick spin and when I put bike on main stand this dropped on the ground (photo 2 & 3). Can anyone identify where it came from (Carbs ?) And lastly, bike has an electronic tachometer/rev counter (photo 3 & 4) which isn't working. do they normally give trouble ? I have voltage coming to the rev counter. Apologies, maybe I should put queries in seperately ? Thanks, Greg

Don't move the bolt and locknut circled in yellow. That secures the cam chain guide. You are correct you have an automatically tensioner. Not sure about the small plate. Cannot be wiring l re read that. I don't have a wiring diagram but l am sure the tach signal comes from the TCI. The problem is more likely the tach unit.

Thanks Franz, appreciate the replies. Unfortunately the tacho seems to be a sealed unit so can't open to check/oil internals.

If you cannot open it perhaps you can get a used unit off eBay.
