I got scammed on here! Please be aware.

Not sure if I'm the first but I recently got scammed on here by a guy claiming to have a part that I was looking for. They really worked me. I had recently put up a wanted add and the scammer responded to the add saying that someone else on this forum has the part but doesn't check on here very often. So he gives me the email of the other person who I then have an exchange with. I Zelled him money and the scammer claimed that he didn't receive the money so he tried to work me over once more by saying we can try Venmo tomorrow. That's when I knew I was being scammed.

Just so you know the scammer has a profile on here called "hectic" and he says to contact another guy named "superluckcat". Superluckycat then tells me to email him under the name dattypants@gmail.com. They really work you and make it seem legit. Hope you don't get scammed too.

Sorry to hear.
Word to the wise, I don't deal with infrequent posters for buying stuff on this or other forums. Especially the ones that pass you to someone else. That is a very common tactic on facebook market place or craigslist. If you can not review the person, don't buy.

 

I've had a pretty solid run on here, 100% success including some expensive items. There's usually some signs that it is a scam and while being an infrequent poster can be a red flag, everyone has to start somewhere. Sorry you got burnt.

Generally speaking, people around here are straight shooters. But I guess it only takes one @$$clown to mess it up.

I suppose that is the "advantage" of eBay - at least there is some level of recourse in the event of a deal gone south.

MrSeca, if y0u have copies of the conversation, could you forward them to me? If someone here did scam you, then I’d want to see irrefutable proof before blocking ,banning, etc…….and what I have done in other forums where I moderate is to put a list up of the names.

on a flip side…….we used to have a member named ‘superluckycat’ years ago, hasn’t. Even seein about 5 yrs now, but he was a decent member of the community—I wonder if someone stole his name? Again, I’d need to see ‘proof’ before blocking or banning or removing someone….

i can’t/won’t do anything like that just because’ someone said so’…….no offense intended at you, I just have to give everyone fair treatment.

Here's a screenshot of the brief conversation with "hectic" before we eventually started to chat on gmail. I never had a conversation with Superluckycat on this forum because as you can see "hectic" gave me his email so I contacted him directly on there. I did already contact Zelle and they are working on it but said it was unlikely since I paid directly to an individual.

I was looking for a luggage rack for a Seca 650.
