Maxim-X 700 Main Jet Upgrade

    I am thinking about putting a jet kit in my stock 1986 Maxim-X 700. Right now I have a #105 main jet. If I put in the next step up to a #107.5, what changes if any will I notice? Main jets are cheap so is it really worth it?

    Keep the bike stock. The Japanese engineers that designed these bikes knew what they were doing.

    It is the general consensus for these bikes that if you want more power, just get a different bike. Like tabaka says, the engineers who made them had access to more knowledge than you or I. If you are wanting to improve something, look towards something where the actual technology has improved, aka Not the carbs where a jet has always been a jet. People say switching the coils to dyna coils makes a difference, though I haven't done it. If you just want to fiddle around with things, putting a fatter jet would give you more fuel, so you would notice a richer running engine. Check the plugs before and after to see if you have too much fuel as indicated by a blacker, sootier, plug.

    Well, you and tabaka45 are correct. I installed the 107 jets this morning and drove it. The drive test was a disaster. The bike felt like it accelerated quicker to 80mph. But past 80 at full open throttle, it bogged down bad. Wouldn't go past 85. So, this evening I put the 105's back in and won't experiment with it anymore. I didn't think going from 105 jet to 107 would make such a huge difference. I guess that's why the engineers get paid the big bucks, lol.

    Yeah, above 80mph it was just dumping too much fuel in... Only one way to find out though! Woulda loved to see the spark plugs lol. If you really want to try and go faster, you would be better off in the saving weight category... I know the stock rims are pretty heavy. There are other things, think I remember a post on here about switching the trailing arm to aluminum or something like that, but that seems extreme. Apart from that, only thing I can think of to save weight is wheels and your belly if you got one!
