Tank sneek preview

I'm putting together a video about some prep I'm doing before the DGR. Here's that ebay tank I bought, such a beauty! It's a shame I had to put my old badges on it! I wish I could get my hands on a new (or nice used) set.

Looks great! When I restored my Maxim I wanted chrome badges. Yamaha made a ton of tank badges, I really mean a ton!! I was able to find some from another model that were unbelievably close and I had to drill a hole.

Here is an example, a lot of sellers will show measurements. Takes some time and effort but I found what I needed.

Thanks for the tip. I've tried heat-forming a Maxim badge to fit my tank with mixed results. My right side badge is the result. I've wondered if forming it right on the tank with a cautious application of heat would be the ticket.

 

Exactly what I did. Spare tank, wax paper between, sunlight and heat gun on low.

 

I just ordered a pair of the gold emblems, should be here in 7-8 weeks. I'll have to keep my old tank till then!

 

I'm still waiting on the emblems, but I cleaned up the bike today for the DGR tomorrow and it's looking pretty sharp! I've gone a couple places with it this week and I forgot how much it wakes up in the higher RPM range, sweet!
