If you are just trying to be proactive in case it fails in the future then I wouldn't lose any sleep if I were you.

I think usually you can just refresh the starter clutch with new springs and rollers - these are readily available.

The only reason you'd need a new is if the clutch housing itself was cracked or damaged. If you need replacement there are ways - ebay, parts bike, etc. Nothing to worry about.

I don't see many threads on starter clutch failure on this site. Surely Yamaha intended it to last a long time especially with its location.

I can assure you it is a real thing. My XJ650J starter clutch is dying a slow death.

Importantly, however, is that it is not an instant catastrophic failure - you typically have plenty of time to figure something out if your starter clutch starts to do the can of marbles trick.

I changed the strings and rollers when l had the motor stripped to replace the chain and guide. I know it happens just hope it doesn't for a long time.

To me the guide is the biggest what if, as I always wonder if the guide is busted and the chain is slapping against the oiler is there a catastrophic failure in the future. I have emptied the oil through a paint strainer a couple of times and seen some very small chunks of guide.

And to the OP if you need the parts Len at info@xj4ever.com is a lifesaver on these bikes, and stocks just about any part you need

When I first got my bike the first thing was an annoying clunk from inside the cases, I later found out it was the middle drive gear damper re-engaging. My chain was loose and I was sure of that so I stripped the motor and replaced the chain while I was in there. Oil spray nozzle was fine. It is a good idea straining the oil to check if the guide has not been replaced.
