I think the 82 SECA 750 I just got needs a starter clutch

    I think the 82 SECA 750 I just got needs a starter clutch....It starts fir cold like a new bike but when hot noise from hell starts after about 4 5 trys...IDK what kind of oil is in it and the battery starts it when cold but spins starter when hot and noise...but even after being on 2 amp charger all not the green charge is still flashing....has 20k miles

    Why would it not do it while cold...the battery in it gets crappy reviews like 2.2 out of 5

    And if it was the battery or oil would it do it while cold also?

    Use only JASO rated oil some oils cause problems with wet clutches and starter clutch. Rotella T4 is good l believe. Slippage when hot is because the engine oil is thinner or is the wrong oil .

    The clutch just gets worse with heat.

    If I were you I'd check out K-Moe's write up and run Rotella T4 15W-40 and hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. Worst case is you have to live with it for a while - it's not like some sort of urgent situation. Just a pain in the butt when the bike is hot.

    Well I guess the battery is ok ...volts drop to around 10 while starting while cold

    What is time do the labor this job at a shop... There is a guy here in town that specializes in working on older bikes he will do this but he's on vacation in Florida I won't be able to get a hold of him for his labor time.... That's why I'm asking what should I expect if he tells me 12 hours is that too long

    With the engine out of the frame it could be done in a few hours, it is not that big of a job. Do you have the time and knowledge to do the repair yourself or are you too busy hence the shop option?

    Change the starter chain guide, its old and if it breaks up will affect gear selection, check the oil spray nozzle which should have no marks from the chain. The guide bolts apply heat before removing them to soften the factory loctite. Get new bolts torque to spec 10Nm.

    I changed the oil to Shell T4 it seemed to help a little

    But with all that notice from the starter clutch why wasn't there some shavings in my old oil? And on the drain plug

    Shavings don't come off the rollers, they must be hardened. Weak springs might be the cause.
