Happy New Year Dave and all XJrs a few of you will be heading to Dave's soon. Every year seems shorter. It is only me who thinks that?

Being from Pittsburgh, I’m interested in coming to this. Depending on where in central NY it is, the distance could range from “totally doable” to “ill advised for a vintage bike.”

Is this the kind of thing you need a PM to get the info for?

Oh, awesome. So I could probably overnight in Binghamton, which is 5ish hours from Pittsburgh. In that case, I’ll put it on my calendar!

Sounds like fun, but it would be a 24-hour ride (~1750 miles) each way on straight interstate for me. Closer to 40 hours if I wanted to try and make it interesting.

Pretty sure the 750 could make it but doubt my butt could. :(

I know I've wanted to go to this for many years but this might be the year I'll pull the trigger and do it. I'll need to PM you about it Dave, if that's OK, being a newbie to this event.

The work tent is up, I’m putting a second one up in case of rain, and the Library was built yesterday…….

    One item of note—
For those coming from the south (coming up route 12)……..this weekend is also the annual Sherburne Pageant of Bands. So there will be a lot of bus/spectator/etc….. traffic in Sherburne this year. Watch carefully, and they may be setting up the detour through town early in the morning. The Parade starts at 1pm, so the road will be closed off before that. (WE will, of course, have started L O N G before that!!)

We have several door prizes lined up—
    Thanks are extended to:

NAPA - 2 cans of seafoam
Gates-Cole Insurance - a bank of goodies and trinkets; kickstand plates

and of course, extra special thanks are extended to Len Chacal and xj4Ever for enduring support, and we have a bunch of xj4Ever stickers, and this year one person will get oil pressure gauge kit. We are going to install the kit on someone’s bike and document the procedure for a write-up to be posted in the how-to forums. We actually did this a few years back, but the pictures were never sent to me and subsequently we had nothing to make a write-up with. So, we will do it over again:)

some other individuals have indicated that they will be bringing some excess parts to the Carb Clinic, and they will go into the ‘East Coast Parts Hoard’ and will get cleaned up and become available once again.

RickCoMatic’s 900rk is under the second canopy for anyone to take a look at, since it has turned up:) It’s not currently running, but it will come back to life in the near future.
    IMG_8075.jpeg

I’m also working on rescuing another previously well-known bike. Once that one is here, I’ll announce it at that time……stay tuned for that one—-lol

I just tried to leave early and get ahead of the worst of it, but my bike broke down just 15 miles from home. Have rode through rain just fine before, but this time water must have gotten somewhere… ugh. Technical chat post incoming, I suppose.

What were the symptoms? I broke down en route to the clinic in the rain a couple of years ago. Cracks in coils let water in. Had to hit them with WD-40 for approx. 45 minutes before it would start again.

It would run okay when at high RPM, but choke and sputter at low RPM and idle. I was able to limp home by keeping the revs high, constantly blipping the throttle when at red lights. I also noticed a good bit of white smoke (steam?) from my exhausts when blipping the throttle, but that could have just been because it was still raining so much.

Could that mean water got into the fuel? Or something in the electrical system? The bike does now smell a bit like burning plastic, so my guess is electrical. It was really coming down out there.

Sounds like a wet coil. I just got the groceries in, the sodas and ice are in the cooler. Getting a fairly heavy shower right now, but it’s supposed to stop here later this afternoon, and now they’re calling for tomorrow to be pretty decent. I’ll put the grill/tables/food tent up later today.

‘Nuch’ called earlier this morning— he’s on his way:) CrazyGnat will be in in the morning, so we just have to dodge rain this year,I guess.

    Ok, so today’s update:

the rain stopped mid afternoon, Nuch arrived first — why am I not surprised???so we got him all set up, and a little while later Huntchuks pulled in……bringing some blue sky along with him. After getting some things set up, it was time for supper—my wife made a pot of chili and some cornbread to go along with it. Most everything is ready for tomorrow, with just a few things to get out and organize yet. The Tubeman will start the day once I get up and get the coffee going.
For now, it’s time for some shut-eye.

Well, the day is here! It’s off to a soggy start, but here we go:)

Time to go get the coffee going—Carbman will go up once the rain showers settle a bit.

Pouring at the moment- but it should be clearing up shortly…. I think it’s the last push of the rain.

CrazyGnat is the winner of the Oil Pressure Gauge Kit from XJ4Ever. We installed it, and there will be a write-up on it in another forum after I get all the pics processed.

they may appear slight off in the pic but that’s the angle of the camera. They are actually DEAD EVEN across the board.

It wasn’t quite the same without Alicia here this year, but she had the opportunity to travel to Tunisia. So— while we’re busy working on our bikes, she’s busy swimming at the beach in Africa. I can’t fault her for choosing that!!!

Hope you’re having a good time, Alicia, but you better be feeling a LITTLE guilty for not being here!!!!lol

End of the day was spent just shooting the breeze in the shop, talk rare parts, and just general chit-chat.

now everyone is off to their tents, and at the last second, someone turned on a flashlight this timed-exposure…. lol

So the shortlist of what we accomplished today:
    1 valve clearance/shim swap
    1 valve clearance check/confirmation
    1 fork seals job
1 oil pressure gauge kit installation
    1 electrical gremlin solved
    1 excessive engine noise diagnosed
1 person learned how to check his valves for after he’s back home
1 person was able to learn more about his bike
1 person was able to get a hand lever that he had been searching for

considering the rough start due to rain, it turned out to be a good day. We’ll be up early-ish to wrap up the weekend tomorrow morning

    good night for now.

1:25pm - last one to go, taking a quick look to navigate the path down the wet grass to the driveway.

Now comes the time to take everything down and get packed away til next June…….

    Speaking of which——

    CNYCC#19 will be Saturday June 13, 2026!

It was good catch up with returning friends, and have some new people join us this year:). We had a good, productive weekend despite the weather’s attempts.

Thanks again to everyone who came, who helped, who learned, we had another successful Central NY Carb Clinic:)

Congrats to all the winners, and once again— special thanks to all the NAPA, and Gates-Cole for their generous donations, thanks to BleedingCello for jumping in even as a newbie here and putting in a set of plugs for a door prize, and of course I am especially grateful to Len Chacal and XJ4Ever for the incredible support over the last 18 years, and the amazing door prizes that he sends up. (Hey Len—maybe you could come up for the 20th yr Carb Clinic and do a seminar, or presentation of some sort?? Next year is the 19th……you should probably come to that one too, so you know where to go for the 20th

Most everything is put away……..one canopy to go, but it’s raining, and the bikes can stay dry in there for now.
Unfortunately, The Inspector is no longer with us…16 yrs is a good age for a dog— I can’t complain.

But I’m sure she would have approved………
