(pic from 2009 is at the bottom of this post)

For those of you who have been here a LOOOONG time, you might remember “Plum Crazy”…… a MaximX from another member who did a major resto on it in approx 2009. It was last registered in 2014. She has been sitting in a humid squirrel and mouse-environment for the duration. I JUST acquired her yesterday, and she’snow at the CNYCC Hospital for orphaned, Unwanted, and Abused XJ’s.
It’ll take some work, but she’ll come back around :)

Personally, I prefer factory looks-so the top case will be removed and a NOS tall backrest/sportrack assembly will be installed as I go through everything.

And is the redline 10,000 or 11,000?

@hogfiddles, Eventually every XJ ever made will have passed thru Dave's hands. Maybe just a piece or two of each, not necessarily every whole bike, but every one of them will have known his touch some how, somewhere.

Took most of the day, but I was able to get the gas cap open just about 8:40pm tonight. I dug out a bunch of parts to start swapping to get rid of the rusty parts….. so by tomorrow evening, she’ll start to look a lot better.

    Quick update—-
What she looked like at lunchtime—
    IMG_8317.jpeg

    IMG_8318.jpeg

What she looked like tonight at 8;30pm for my stopping point for today.
    IMG_8319.jpeg

    Work accomplished Today:

    New forks
    New reflectors
    New front turn signals
New pipes ( the extra ones you had)
Collector box is the one that was on
    New mufflers
    New cluster
    New headlight ass’y
Rotors taken off and sanded clean
Cleaned misc dirt here and there.

    Tomorrow:

    New handlebars
    New engine guards
    New foot pegs
    New brake pedal
    New rear brake lever
    New shifter lever
    NOS tall backrest ass’y
    New mirror stems

Then general cleaning and shining…and eventually a new rear taillight housing

Once it’s to that point, then I’ll be pulling the tank to get it cleaned out, and then get into the carburetors. But other customers’ racks are in line first…..

No clue. I do know he got them from Len, so he’d know. Otherwise, I’ll find out if I swap the shocks back to original rears .

The reality is that I believe they likely would fit… pretty much all xj shaft-drive shocks are about the same length. I swap them around a lot….just have to pay attention to the bushing at the bottom—

I like them with the gaiters to protect the shocks from road dirt.

Today’s update— didn’t get as much done as I was hoping…… that’s ok, I’m in no rush—-a severe storm blasted through the area during the night/- major flooding, a tornado 10-15 mi north, 3 people killed, 2 of which were 6yr old twins.

Power was restored about 3:30pm here.

    What got done—-

Brand new NOS engine guards from a sealed box, and a new brake pedal
    IMG_8369.jpeg

    IMG_8368.jpeg

    Front fender cleaned, and re-installed
    IMG_8370.jpeg

New mirror stems installed, and the mirrors cleaned up and shiny again
    IMG_8371.jpeg

Even the two old engine guards, as bad as they looked, are cleaning up. I’ll be able to use these on another bike:)

I was wondering how you made out in the storms. Not bad here, power out for a couple hours but I was out on the Maxim 750 riding to Deposit but got there too late for breakfast.
Plum Crazy is looking good but I can still spot a rusty screw head and a rust bolt head in that first picture. I have little room to harass you about rust as my XJ's are all rusty in MANY places.

    and after
    IMG_8393.jpeg

Complete NOS tall backrest, brackets, and sports rack
    IMG_8396.jpeg

    IMG_8394.jpeg

Still more to replace, but once that is all done, I’ll touch up the rusty nuts and bolts.
