I thought that there was a step by step guide for rebuilding the gas cap somewhere but I haven’t been able to find it. I need clean the vent. Anyone have a link?

Took the cap apart and made sure the vent is clear. Didn't see any obstruction, but blew it out with carb cleaner and so far not more issues.

Well, it stopped on me again--about 15 miles down the road. Set the petcock to prime, opened the cap, and it started with out an issue. Drove home with no issue. I again removed the cap and blew out the vent with carb cleaner and compressed air. I noticed that on the opposite side of the cap from the vent there is what looks like another vent with some type of fiber filter material--or at least that's what it looks like. I didn't mess with it, but I'm wondering what it is and if it may be causing the problem.

That is indeed a vent, too

Should I blow out the second vent? There is no check ball like the other side, so I'm not sure how it works or should look. In looking at https://www.xj4ever.com/gas cap.pdf he doesn't seem to address it.

It’s typically just a small hole with a felt filter on it
