Cheap New Tires Or Retail Dunlops?

    I am looking to buy new tires (old ones are from 2008!) and see that everyone is saying Dunlop D404 is pretty good, found someone selling Commander III cruiser tire 57H for front exact size for $100 and was wondering the quality of the tire compared to the Dunlop. And they were also selling for Rear a Bridgestone Exedra G703 67S also $100. The tires are new. Thinking I might go for these instead of the Dunlops because they seem like a steal. What do yall think? (Edit: the Exedra is meant as a front tire, which I'm concerned about putting on my rear since idk if that'll be bad because of the pattern.) The speed rating would be lower on the back then front which I hear is good

    Bridgestone battleaxe ftw.
    Used on gs750 gs1000 cb900 gsx550 and now xj900.
    Tried a few others but these are the best tyres I've ever used full stop.
    Hard in the middle and soft on the sides.

    @Smackiee , If I read that right you are looking at using a front tire on the rear of your bike? Yes the sizes are the same but the construction of the tire is not. I would really, really advise against that. Front and rear tires are loaded much differently, tread patterns are different for a reason, internal constructions are different. Most of us don't ride aggressively enough on our XJ's to test the tires too much but using tires in their proper and designed for position is the best practice.
    Tire threads are a lot like oil threads, everyone has an opinion and idea of what is "best". Me? I have run many, many Shinko tires without issue and have been well pleased. I have a Dunlop 404 on a bike now and have no complaints but I don't push to the limits either. Just be careful with trying stuff like fronts on the back, really not a good idea.

    The tires might be new but they might be old. If you don't know there is a number on the sidewall starting with DOT.
    The last 4 digits are the week and year the tire was made.
    A Dunlop tire rep spoke at our vintage club once, he said after 7 years the rubber may have deteriorated.
    If they are stored next to washer dryer the ozone released by the electric motors can be damaging.
    I agree with @Fuller56 don't mount a tire designed for the front on the rear.

    Huh? Personally I like matched sets.
    I think an H rating is good for sustained speeds to 130MPH so more than adequate on an XJ

    Unless the tyre is marked as being for BOTH front and rear use, don't fit a front to the rear. Front tyres are usually lighter built and often shallower grooves anyway, so you'll be both running a material risk and getting less life from it.
    Fitting rear tyres to front wheels, now that's a different matter. Many people do that, where appropriate.

    I don't know where that came from but that advice is nonsensical.
