    I just bought my first bike a XJ750 Maxim 1983. Here I will be covering my adventure fixing it up a bit and riding it next season. I'll Need some help tuning it up and finding parts etc.
    Main Problem: It runs very well, the guy I bought it from got it running after it sat for 14 years, because of this neglect the fuel leaked into the carburetors which made it start spraying when the last people turned it on. They got it working and now I'm not sure what to do to make it the best it can be. Ill try flushing the carbs a few more times (what the other guy did as well) which I assume means just burning fuel by using it idk. He also ultrasoniced it, whatever that means which I think helped the carbs alot. He also replaced the battery! Anyways here is a list of things I am planning on doing with it,
    • Mirrors
    • New Handles
    • Tuning the Throttle (it's loose and quite sensitive, won't stay at consistent rpms when I stay in one place, instead it keeps going up despite me not progressing on the throttle anymore ( not sure if that's normal))
    • New tires since the old ones are from 2008 lol
    • Making it so it doesn't rev bomb so much before starting to go, Probably because of the thing with the fuel leaking into the carbs but im not entirely sure.
    • New oil, break fluid, gear shaft oil, fuel filter
    • A cover, if anyone has any ideas about how to get a cover for this thing please let me know thanks!
    • I've already bought a manual for it, won't be here for awhile.
    • And a few things I might do as a maybe, is upgrade the headlight and explore options for upgraded exhuasts (idk if thats a thing for bikes this old, just wanna see if its possible for fun!)
    • Tuning breaks and clutch handles, making it so I can reach them better
    • New front break pad possibly
    • Making it so I can reach the gear shifter better if possible (I cant reach it without taking my foot off the footpeg)
    • Fix back red light not being on when riding normally (will be on when I brake but otherwise isn't for some reason, which won't fly at night obviously)
    • Fix the little light in the rpms display
    • Tune the valves (might be bad idea idk)
    • Sync the carbs
    • And anything else that comes up later
    All and all it seems pretty good bike for what I bought it for $1000 and a monitor, especially since the poor thing hasn't been used in so long. I really just want to do some good to this thing so imma need some help.

    Thanks so much man! I had been wondering if it was safe to buy a carb Rebuild kit off amazon, someone warned me though that it could be the wrong size. So this definitely helps!

    Tried to Change oil But was gatekeeped by Bolts and Screws smh. Hooked up a battery tender so Battery is good. Slapped some seafoam into the oil and Fuel to sit and hopefully do something other than break my bike during the winter. Thinking the seafoam will do some work on the rust in the fuel tank so I Plan on draining fuel tank in spring so the rust doesn't go through bike making things alot harder. In the meantime I'm going to try and replace fluids for Brakes, Forks, Driveshaft, etc. Everything except oil and then Im going to try to fix the brakes front and back and then change the tires. maybe Change the fuze box since it's still the OG. And then Change the spark plugs because I'm pretty sure thats why it struggles to idle unless I rev it..

    I'm not sure seafoam will do anything to rust.

    Seafoam is about 70% naptha and 30% isopropanol..... the naptha will stabilize fuel and dissolve gummy deposits as a slow-acting solvent. The isopropanol will take care of any water, and it can handle several times the water that ethanol can. Certainly no harm in using it for storage. For rust, I'd recommend removing the tank, dump in a gallon of Evaporust, rotate the tank around ever couple of days to get coverage on all areas of the inner tank... take a week to do this. Dump out the Evaporust, if it turned dark or black, it means it found rust..... if clearer, filter it through a paint filter and repeat the process..... some have dumped in a handful of ball bearings/nails/drywall screws and sloshed them around..... count them before and after to make sure you get them all out.
    Last step, rinse thoroughly with water, then I blow dry with compressed air..... next rinse thoroughly with a quart or so of isopropanol to pick up any residual water, blow dry with compressed air again.

    Take a pic of the inside of you tank. There are many better ways to make rust go away or at least reduce the rust you have in your tank. With that nice paint job you just have to be careful what ever you do. I do hope you are running a fuel filter between tank and carbs.
