Winter recovery (forgive me, XJ gods)

    For reasons I won't go into, I wasn't able to properly prepare my bike for winter storage. I'm just glad I managed to get it into a garage. So I need help in what I should do to prepare her for spring.

    I've taken off the gas tank (to de-rust and repaint) and the carbs (to clean), so fuel won't be an issue. Took the battery too, so it'll be fully juiced when I start her up. What I did not do is change or drain the oil, so this is what's worrying me. Will letting it drip drain overnight clean her out? Or perhaps draining what I can, refill with oil and some seafoam, and change the oil after a hundred miles?

    I also did nothing about the tires. She's sitting on her side stand now, and has been for three months. Will the tires be warped and dangerous to ride on, or will a mile of cautious riding fix that?

    Your suggestions will be my canon. Thank you.

    Change the oil and filter. Charge-up the Battery.
    Put the tires to their proper inflation.

    Fire it up and see if it goes.

    You might need to run a bottle of Fuel Injector Cleaner / Carb Cleaner through with the new gas ... but, you may be OK.

    Just be careful if the tires went flat and be sure they are inflated good.
    Put too much air in them and then let some out to the right pressure.

    put some air in the tires and go
    i don't know about seafoam for 100 miles, i think 10 easy miles would be plenty
    watch the brakes, first few times mine get kind of grabby

    I'd go ahead and get it running before changing the oil (unless it's full of gasoline). Warm it up then drain the old stuff. Put in new filter and oil and you are ready for spring.

    I agree with all the above, you shouln't have much trouble getting the bike ready provided it was running well last season.

    I personally love Seafoam. I'd run half a can through your first tank of gas and half through your second can of gas. That stuff will hopefully clear out any minor varnish that has deposited itself around your fuel system.
