Give us the first part of the VIN # and well tell you from that. It is stamped into the right side of the steering neck and printed on the left side. Will start with JYA, we'll need the four digits after that. And congratulations of the bike. You will find it is a great handling bike with plenty of power to be careful with.

Welcome, first thing to look at is is it shaft drive or chain drive. 550's were chain drive. Make sure of the model year as KBB doesn't list a Seca for 1980. Could be a late 1980 build date 81 Seca 550 or 750. No 650 Seca till '82 so that is out. Either way good bikes overall. The 550's seemed to have more reliable carburetion. cruzerjd

Samantha you are the proud owner of a 1981 XJ550 Seca. Post some pics so we gearheads can gawk. That was one of the nicest Seca models made.

    Hey Sam:

How long has it been sitting around ... or, ... is it in running condition?

You may need to have a few things done to get it ready for going on-the-road.
Most frequently, with a bike that aged, is a Carb Cleaning and a Fuse Panel replacement.
