The fellow who gave me the bike I just fixed up hasn't come through with the title to the bike, I can't get it legal, and now I have to leave it sitting in my father's shop for a few months while I go off to work in another state. A $%^&- ing tragedy.

Anyone know the proper procedure for storing a bike? Drain the carbs, drain the tank, I presume. Was thinking of putting some kind of moisture absorber packets in the dry tank so it doesn't rust. Brakes need to be drained? Etc.

    Yes drain the carbs dry!
No, do not drain the tank though. Fill her full, and add some Stabil or Seafoam. Cant rust then.

    Also:
Remove battery and store in a dry, room temp place. Also put that battery on a battery tender too.
Put the bike on the center stand to remove weight from the tires.(Depending on the time spent away).
Remember to change the oil when you return(Maybe before you leave as well!!)

Upon return, new spark plugs, fresh oil, strong battery, fresh fuel, and some patience should do ya right.
Dumping the old fuel is not a requirement, but I do it to baby MY BABY. Call me strange, but she loves me for it ;)

Remove the sparkplugs and pore in 2 tablespoons of motor oil turn the motor over. This will cover the cylinders walls with oil. This will burn off when you start the bike for your first ride.

I just wanna make sure on the tank, cause I've already had to replace it once due to rust. What's this stabil/seafoam stuff? It could be a year before I get back to her (hope not, but ya never know).

Use sta-bil. It will keep the gas from breaking down.

Reason to fill the tank full is to keep condensation out. Less than full it'll collect water.

Also, inflate the tires to their maximum pressure. Put on center stand. Block front end up a bit so neither tire is on the ground. Don't forget to put tires back at proper pressure before riding.

Not a bad idea to put fresh oil in if it'll be standing awhile.

After you oil the cylinders put the spark plugs back in to keep dirt and critters out.
