I did a few more things to the bobber in the passed few days. Being I had the valve cover off, I painted it and the carb covers pearl red. Then did the main part of the engine flat black. I switched the rear shocks to ones with covers instead of the exposed springs I had before I used the shorter springs inside them to keep it low. I also re-covered the seat and put 2" springs under it (boing boing boing!) I got rid of the big square gauges and just fabricated a bracket for a small Honda speedometer and 4 LED lights for the signal, heigh beam and turn signals. Then I got carried away and put a little 300w amp under the tank and added some speakers I made out of chrome light housings and mounted them behind the windshield. The windshield doesn't make it look any better, but with the weather the way it is, I'm leaving it till it warms up and it helps hide the speakers too. >PD<

    Buff,
The comfort factor was first and formost when I started cutting and chopping. The first thing was to make forward controls, so I could get my legs stretched out in front of me (which I got used to on my 1100 Honda Shadow)
The seat is as comfy as I can get it. And now with the springs under the seat, it should float over bumps now! I shortened the shocks 1" and have them on the lowest setting, so it's pretty smooooooooth riding.
This bike handles like it did stock (maybe better) and with things right where I want them now, it's so much fun to ride, I hate to get off of it!
Just imagine having sport bike handling with a cruiser riding position and you'll get the picture. PD

How tough is it to paint the engine flat black? I'd like to do my entire engine, just because it is pretty rough looking, but would rather not remove it from the frame

Hey PD, if you ever decide you want to paint the pipes let me know. I've got a set without all that slippery chrome on them that'll hold paint better. I'll do an even trade.

    Highest taxes, worst roads.
That's a great looking bike, man. I love the cigarette lighter in the dash.

The only problem I see now is painting the black in those grooves in the valve cover - I would need to remove the cover and I don't really want to go thru that just yet. I just got done putting it back on and I don't really want to buy another gasket! The paint is high temp paint with clear over it, so the cover would have to come off to paint it. So it looks like it will stay that way untilI have to remove it again. Live and learn I guess.

    UPDATE:
OK, so I painted the grooves on the valve covers and it does look better now. It's not high heat paint, but it's black anyway, so what's it going to do...turn more blacker??
I also moved the igintion switch to the left side cover (I didn't like it up o the dash anyway) and moved the speedometer closer to the handlebars. Now there's room for my windshield bag!
I also painted the switch housing for the grip heater switch and cigarette lighter to blend in with the black.
