    Afternoon gents,

New to this forum. Forgive me if there is a better area to post this. Tried searching and looking under the diy section but i didnt see much. Just bought an 82 Xj750 maxim. Im looking for some tips/advice (and emotional support) for removing and installing the airbox. I previously took it out to give myself room while rewiring the harness and broke the side of the box. Plasti welded it back together but snapped it again putting it back in...and that was after loosening the engine mounts to tilt it forward which seemingly gave me less room...whats the trick here? Is this just a god awful design flaw with no work around? Makes me consider hacking the frame, buying a welder and learning a new skill...(semi joking).

If its anything like my Radian, a heat gun helped. I removed as much stuff that was in the way ( carbs, starter motor ) and came in from the right side. Once the air box started hitting things, i used a heat gun to soften up the plastic where it was hitting and i was able to get it in.
It was still a pain, but i got there with no appreciable damage

After heating up the sections you needed to, did it keep the shape so you can"more easily" remove and put back in future or just a light warm.up to make it more malleable?
