I am completely new to the world of Motorcycles! I just picked up a 1983 Yamaha XJ650 Maxim with 31k miles for $400. Clean title, brand new tires. It was the seller's dad's bike, but after he died it sat in the garage for years. Seller took the carbs off for cleaning but gave up halfway. Supposedly the bike runs, but not too great. I trust the guy since $400 is nothing to him I sure. I gave it a good clean, spent like an hour removing the air box, and more cleaning. Valve cover is oily, and I need to clean the carbs still. Front brake caliper is removed for whatever reason so I need to put that back on. I removed the intake boots, starter, and the battery box to get the air box out :,)

Super excited to get it all running and driving! Tons of maintenance I need to catch-up on as well. Three of the pictures are from the seller, last picture is from me after I cleaned it.

Congratulations! And welcome to the neighborhood! Just about anything there is to know about these bikes is in here somewhere. A great place to start is the XJ4EVER logo on the upper right of every page here. Go read the Information Overload entry. Good Luck and Have Fun.
