Just wondering if anyone here has pulled a trailer with their XJ? Does someone out there make a hitch system for an XJ? Or does one have to modify one? I know...(in my best Yoda impression) Full of questions this one is...I know that the 750's and 900's, at least, should have enough power to pull a small trailer. But what about the handling? Are our bikes too light to safely handle a trailer? Just wondering.....

The Yamaha owners manual that comes with the bike (for a XJ750RH) states " This motorcycle is not designed to pull a trailer or to be attached to a sidecar. "

Yeah, I know what the manual says about it. I'm sure Honda says the same thing about the CBR's too. But our bikes were designed and built before Uni-Go trailers were designed.

This guy claims that he can still do wheelies with the trailer attached.

The CBR600F3 like shown here has a curb weight of 407 pounds, so we have about 70 pounds more in weight.

Just wondering if something like this would work on an XJ? The hitch uses a U-Joint instead of a ball joint. The empty weight of the trailer is 70 lbs., and carries a maximum of 110 lbs. of "stuff", for a total weight of 180 lbs. Fully loaded the hitch still only has 60lbs. on the tounge. Whadaya think? Something like like this possible for XJ's to pull?

Wouldn't see why not given the load issues are within the parameters of a passenger anyway. Just got to make sure the stresses are applied at the right places i.e. mimic a passengers loading of the rear end.

the 750 bike should be fine for pulling a trailer, like rob said, if it can carry two ppl, then a trailer should be no problem.. I thought about making one too, for extended roadtrips or camping w/lots of ppl(where you need to bring a tent and lots of food) I cant imagine it being too difficult to pound out a mount of some sort. preferably one that makes it follow the bike rather than move with it.

Oh and don't forget that several people, against the manual, have added a sidecar to their XJ rig and it works just fine thank you (not me though).

If the hitch is installed to the frame correctly, and you keep tongue wieght to less than 100lbs, I'd say you'd be good to go. Especially if you're pulling one of those cool mono-wheel trailers.

Yeah, I'd like to have one of those little trailers, but since they retail for about $2100 and $2500 depending on the setup, I don't think there is one in my near future. I can't see spending 5 times the money I spent for the bike that is going to pull it. It has to be alot cheaper to build my own.

I had no idea about the sidecar, never seen one on a Seca, I'll bet it looks sharp.

Well, off to the drawning board I go to see what I can come up with.
