Hey everyone. I just bought a 82 seca XJ750 and the glass on the instrument cluster is broken. I have two questions. One is can I just repair the cluster by buying a new piece of glass, and where could I get this? Also if I cant repair it, I found a 1981-83 Yamaha Seca XJ550 Instrument Cluster Gauges OEM for sale and it looks like it would fit on my bike but i'm not sure, anyone know? Thanks, I appreciate any feedback.

The clear cover over the instruments is the same for all 81-83 750 Seca models!

You can get a glass shop or even Home Depot to cut a piece of glass to fix yours but you can't use a 550 instrument cluster because the tach is mechanical and yours is electric. It will fit, I used one for a while, but changing the tach mechanism is a lot of trouble and you will have to rewire all the connections. If you are dead set on replacing the cluster the one from an XS1100 with electric tach is a better fit and you get a 160 MPH speedo to boot.

Okay, thanks guys. I think I will do the replacement glass for now but what years of the XS 1100 could I use? Any other models or years work?

If this is a question then the answer is: the 82 Seca has the computer instrumentation so the cluster from the 81 to 83 Seca and the 82 Maxim are the only ones for a direct swap out.

1981-83 750 Seca clusters are all the same. I believe I've read that a 1982 XJ750 Maxim cluster will interchange electrically, I don't know about the mechanical adaptation of it.

ArizonaSteve said that the XS 1100 would fit...is this true?

It's not a direct replacement, you have to do some rewiring of the connectors but otherwise the 1100 setup just bolts right on. You could use either the square instruments from a Standard or the round ones from a Special depending on what you like. The Standard has a fuel gauge but the Special only has a warning light. If you want the fuel gauge to work properly you have to recalibrate it which involves opening up the housing then gluing it back together. The warning light only needs a new sensor mounted in the tank. I've got a photo of mine somewhere but could never get this site to take photos.

I know a 82xj750 seca will fit and work on a 82xj750j, I did it on mine. So I assume that the opposit would also work. A simple plug and play Other than that, Just like everyone else is saying the 81-83 750 seca will work.

I've installed a 82 750 Max cluster onto my 82 750 Seca. Only had to jumper a ground into one connector for a drop-in.

What size of glass do I need cut for my cluster gages? Length x Width x Depth? Also what should I use...Plexiglas? Or is there something better I could use? And lastly, how do I fit it in there and have it seal securely so it doesn't leak?

take the gauge out of the pod, and roll back with fingers, or small screw-driver.

or if all need be, disassemble the miles part and set the digits back to what you want.

i've done this to match mileage on a used cluster on a truck.

I'd sure like to know how you did that TurboBike. My assembly is swedged together and I've ruined one trying to get it apart.
