Okay, Okay, don't thump my noggin... I'm just kidding about that! Though some of the awesome experts and historians here may recall there really was a Tohatsu 50cc twin cyl. motorcyle. One came through my shop years back; you coulda used the pistons for keyfobs.

Anyway I love bikes simply because, well, they're fun. So my wife warns that my "alleged sense of humor" (her words) can get out of hand. But this really is a wonderful, helpful and friendly forum. Thanks for maintaining such a great place to drop in.

Got several cycles but my clear favorite is my 81 650 Maxim. It's a good bike to own and ride. And it's a lot more reliable than I ever was at 27 years old.

I'm in Central Texas (outskirts of Austin) so if anybody ever needs a hand, (or jumper cables) just let me know. I'm not really a master mechanic but by chance my former 1970's head mechanic now has a shop nearby. (an amazingly smart, honorable guy; after completing his Master's Degree he just decided he'd rather work on cycles.) So life is good!

thanks again for letting me hang out with such a great group.

it looked like the pix here. said to be the only 50cc/twin roadracer ever offered to the public. What a hoot!

Looking back, I wish I had tried to buy it, but that's also true of Google stock and lots else. I'm great at hindsight!

Motorcycle mania is weird. Past few months I've been lusting at a box job "Autocycle" (GoldWing-based enclosed cycle), but I'm resisting, partly because of experience with "great idea" projects and partly because my wife is starting to refer to me as her "first husband." :)

haha, my wife's getting to be the same way.

Man, I'd like to own that little bit of history. Looks like a nice little bike! haha.

And simple to. Idk but i'm facinated with the 50's / 60's motorcycles. think it may have been apart of my past life.

me too. biking seemed different then. But that's not to say it was better. Even suffering nostalgia and a fading brain, I remember clearly what a pain some of my British bikes could be to kick start. And after being in the saddle with all that vibration, when I got off I felt like I should smoke a cigarette and make wedding plans.

One model, a BSA 441 Victor, was a helluva strong, torquey bike which could be great off-road. But being a long stroke single it could take more man than me to start when it didn't feel like going for a ride. So I moved over to Huskys, even though buying those (truly fine) Swedish steel parts nearly required a home equity loan.

And (please don't flame me, this is just a statement of personal religion): I somehow never liked Harleys. I'm overjoyed that a US maker is selling lots of motorcycles today, but I didn't care for them then and not likely to change this late in my life. With a well-engineered bike (eg. XJs) you have a chance to spend more time riding than wrenching.

    just my $.02
