spin-on oil filters

    Ok, I know that chacal has the spin on oil filter kits for sale. Does anyone have this kit installed on there bike. How easy is the installation and how does it look when installed (pics please). I'm seriously considering doing this but would like to see a picture of the kit - either installed or not installed. Is the kit homemade? Do I need to worry about craftsmanship of the kit? What's it made of?

    theres a picture of one in my gallery, it's not from Chacal but should be close
    it's not hard to put on at all
    is it homemade ? no idea, but a lot of homemade parts are higher quality than
    factory Chinese parts
    Chacal wouldn't sell it if it wasn't any good
    mine is aluminum, i would think they all are

    Hey Earz.....I've sold almost 60 of these and not one complaint yet!

    It's not "homemade", it's made by a local precision machine shop that does an amazing array of contract jobs for a variety of different customers.......arrrgh some of my projects keep getting thrown on the backburner while they're making sniper rifle silencers for the Swedish armed forces, and building missle engine testing fixtures for Redstone Arsenal. They just don't understand the importance of XJ parts.......

    The adapter plate is machined billet aluminum, the adapter stud is steel. All of the oil filter cans seem to be some kind of punched high-tin steel (!) but of course I don't make those!

    The install instructions are printed on the cheapest on-sale paper that I can buy at Office Depot. :)

    Plan on taking about 2-4 hours to do the install, depending on how anally-retentive you are about cleanliness, etc. You'll need just basic hand tools, lots of rags, and a small tube of semi-permanent thread locker and anti-seize fluids are advisable also.

    Well, it's good to see one installed - thanks Polock. I'm definately gonna be getting one of these. Still trying to work out some title issues before I jump in head first on all the stuff I want to do to this thing. I've posted a pic in my gallery of how it looks right now. All stock - minus the air box. I plan on chop/bobbing it.
